Course Description:
This training introduces early childhood educators to the practices, policies, and skills needed to support breastfeeding families in childcare settings. Participants will learn why breastfeeding is important, how childcare providers can influence breastfeeding success, and what a breastfeeding‑friendly environment looks like. The lesson covers breastfeeding recommendations, common challenges, safe handling and storage of breastmilk, paced feeding techniques, communication strategies, and Arkansas laws that protect breastfeeding families. Educators will also explore how to create breastfeeding‑friendly spaces, develop supportive policies, and connect families with community resources such as WIC, lactation consultants, and peer counselors. By the end of the session, participants will feel more knowledgeable, confident, and comfortable supporting breastfeeding mothers and caring for breastfed infants.
